ABCD History
The Alaska Blind Child Discovery recognizes the value of patches to assure monocular acuity testing but also the costs to the screeners and the acceptiblity of the methods by the children, the parents and the screeners. As a result, ABCD has invested in large batches of Child-Friendly patches as well as an option parents can make at home for acuity testing.

In Spring 2006, ABCD purchased 40,000 custom, Child-Friendly acuity patches from MikeO'Connell at Ad Tape and Label company. These were made from 1530 3M Micropore tape with an island non-adhesive placed on the sticky side so eyelashes don't get stuck. ABCD intends that every Alaskan Kindergartner and 3rd Grader get valid patched acuity testing
