ROP-Check Software

Home
One of the most cost-effective pediatric vision screenings is NICU referral and follow up of infants at risk for ROP. Software assists this critical task

Infants at high risk for ROP:

Birthweight less than 1600 g

Gestational age less than 32 weeks

Sustained respiratory compromise

Race: Alaska Native and Asian

Optic Nerve Hypoplasia

First week oxygen fluctuations

ABCD History
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) starts in tiny infants with immature but attached retinas. large areas of avascular retina are sensitive to stresses in the NICU such as fluctuating oxygen concentrations, and they produce neovascular factors that can abnormally promote leaky, tangled blood vessels that lead to retinal detachment and eventual bliindness. Fortunately, many such infants can be treated if they are appropriately screened by NICU staff.
